Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Flor y canto (Poesía)

El título de esta sección hace referencia a la frase "In xochitl, in cuicatl". Proveniente del náhuatl, el idioma de los mexicas y otros pueblos originarios del Valle de México, "Flor y canto" es lo que el reconocido antropólogo Miguel de León-Portilla designa como un difrasismo, es decir, dos palabras que se expresan juntas para describir una tercer idea. De manera que los nahuas empleaban esta frase para describir algo que no es la flor ni el canto, sino una metáfora para la idea de la poesía, el arte, el simbolismo y la verdad. Cada envio constará de 2 a 3 páginas. Se aceptarán los trabajos en letra tamaño 12 pts., fuente Times New Roman y a espacio doble.

 

The title of this section references the phrase "In xochitl, in cuicatl." In Nahuatl, the language of the Aztec and other native peoples of the Valley of Mexico, ¨Flower and Song¨ is an example of what the recognized Anthropologist Miguel de León-Portilla calls a difrasismo, that is to say, two terms that are expressed together to describe a third idea. This way, the Nahuas used this phrase to describe something that isn't a flower or song, but rather a metaphor for the idea of poetry, art, symbolism, and truth. The total length of each submission will be 2-3 pages.   Works will be accepted in lettering size 12, Times New Roman font, double spaced.

Sueños guiados (Narrativa)

El título de esta sección nació en honor al gran escritor Jorge Luis Borges, quien una vez dijo que los cuentos son como sueños guiados. En esta sección, nuestro enfoque son textos en prosa tales como cuentos, leyendas y mitos. La extensión es variable, por lo general de 2 a 15 páginas. Por último, los textos se enviaran en Times New Romans, 12 pts. y a doble espacio.

 

The title of this section was born in honor of the great writer Jorge Luis Borges, who once said that stories are like guided dreams. In this section, our approach are original short prose text such as stories, myths and legends. The extension is variable, usually from 2 to 15 pages. Finally, the essays will have to be letter size 12 and double space.

Prosa de varia invención

Homenaje al poeta español Luis de Góngora y al polígrafo mexicano Juan José Arreola, esta sección publica textos breves en prosa cuya libertad e hibridez genérica es producto de una imaginación que trasciende todo tipo de fronteras. La extensión de los textos es de 1 a 5 cuartillas en Times New Roman, 12 pts. y a doble espacio.

 

Homage to the Spanish poet Luis de Góngora and the Mexican polygraph Juan José Arreola, this section publishes short fictional prose whose hybrid nature and generic freedom is the product of an imagination transcending all kind of boundaries. Submissions must be 1 to 5 pages, Times New Roman, 12 pts., double espace.

Tinta del pensamiento (Ensayo)

El propósito de esta sección es publicar ensayos originales escritos por estudiantes.  Los ensayos tendrán  una extensión de 2 a 15 páginas.   Además,  deberán acompañarse por un breve resumen de contenido al igual que bibliografía. También se requiere que los autores utilicen el formato MLA en sus ensayos. Los textos se enviarán en Times New Roman, 12 pts. y a doble espacio.

The purpose of this section is to publish original essays written by students. The extension of the essays can vary, usually from 2 to 15 pages. Moreover, they should be accompanied by a brief summary of content as well as bibliography. In addition, it is required that authors use MLA format in their essays. Finally, the essays will have to be letter size 12 and double space.

Traduttore, traditore

La expresión "traduttore, traditore", es una frase que viene del italiano y significa "traductor, traidor". La misma refleja la complicada posición que el traductor acepta al trasladar un texto de un idioma a otro. Ante la imposibilidad de serle completamente fiel al texto original, se dice que el traductor termina con el trágico papel del villano que lo traiciona. Es por eso que esta sección busca explorar y demostrar las complejidades, dificultades y sutilezas que acompañan a esta profesión. La extensión de las colaboraciones será variable.

 

The expression, "traduttore, traditore," is an Italian phrase that means "translator, traitor." This reflects the complex position the translator embraces in converting a text from one language to another. It is said that translators fall into the tragic role of villains who betray an original text, in face of the impossibility of being completely true to it. The aim of this section is to explore and evidence the complexities, difficulties, and subtleties involved in the profession. The length of submissions may vary.

Encuentros

Esta sección publica entrevistas a personajes relevantes para la comunidad hispana en el ámbito cultural. Las entrevistas deberán incluir una breve semblanza de la personalidad entrevistada y tendrán una extensión de 2 a 15 páginas. El formato de las entrevistas debe ser Times New Roman, a 12 pts. y a doble espacio. Se aceptarán trabajos en coautoría.

 

This section publishes interviews of outstanding personalities in the Hispanic community. The interviews must contain a brief description of the interviewee and the length is from 2 to 15 pages. The format of the interview is Times New Roman, 12 points and double space. The interviews can be co-authored.

Color y movimiento

Esta sección publica obra plástica, animaciones, audios y videos. Se aceptarán trabajos en coautoría. Los audios y los videos tendrán una extensión máxima de 15 minutos. Cuaderna Vía se reserva el derecho de no publicar aquellos trabajos que se consideren impropios o que no se ajusten a la política editorial de la revista.

 

This section is dedicated to collecting animations, audios and videos. The work collected can be co-authored. Audios and videos can be up to 15 minutes long. Submissions can be co-authored. Cuaderna Vía reserves the right to not publish work that does not comply with the norms of the Board of Directors.
